About the therapist
My name is Alison Lewis, I am the owner of Malvern Canine Massage. I live near the Malvern Hills in rural Worcestershire and have worked for the NHS for over 22 years in various roles, mostly as a Physiotherapist Assistant Practitioner, whilst bringing up two children. Monty, a beautiful black Sprocker, became part of our family, 12 years ago and over that time has kept us active by competing at Agility, Champion level and going on lots of family adventures. My journey into canine massage started when I observed Monty was slowing down. I could see the similarities of human anatomy and dogs, and this gave me the incentive to look at Canine Massage as a change in career. I completed the one-day Beginners Guide to Canine Massage with the centre and was amazed to see how canine massage can make a positive difference to a dog’s life . Clinical Canine Massage therapy is a non-invasive therapy that helps to rehabilitate dogs. Senior dogs, young active dogs, sporting and working dogs, nervous and anxious dogs. There are numerous benefits. Massage can help to resolve soft tissue or muscular injuries and support orthopaedic issues like Arthritis and Hip Dysplasia. Helping dogs improve their overall wellbeing.
I can offer treatments based on assessments of pain, gait, behaviour, postural analysis, activities of daily living and performance and soft tissue palpation. I use four disciplines of canine massage, Swedish, Sports and Deep tissue massage, Myofascial release and also the exclusive clinical trialled Lenton Method® (link to BVA journal). Each treatment is tailored to your dog’s individual needs and results are normally seen within 1-3 treatments. I have also attended dog training courses including dog behaviour and body language and canine level 2 first aid.

Initially Dylan was reluctant to being touched. Alison was extremely professional in her approach and gently coaxed Dylan to be able to sit and allow massage. The most marked improvement was less stiffness around the neck and Dylan appeared more comfortable when moving. I would highly recommend Alison to other dog owners.

We were interested to establish if Pixie would respond to massage to calm her as she is quite anxious. Alison quickly bonded with Pixie. The Massage treatment by Alision has really had a positive effect on calming her. After the massages Pixie was much more settled in her ways and the treatment has had a positive outcome.
