About the Therapist
Hello, I’m Claire McGurk and I own the Canine Bodywork Clinic.
I have always had a natural passion/obsession with animals from a young age, specifically dogs, but surprisingly ended up with a career in Civil Engineering. However, throughout my career, I was always learning in my spare time; I studied Animal Behaviour and Psychology, completed Animal Health and Welfare Certification and earned my Canine First Aid but it was when my old GSD Misty had the onset of arthritis that I was introduced to Clinical Canine Massage. Following using Clinical Canine Massage Therapist, Catriona Dickson for both Misty and my current disabled dog Zuri, I undertook one of Catriona’s workshops and from there was the natural progression to change my career and study with the renowned Natalie Lenton, at the Canine Massage Therapy Centre 2-year Practitioner course.
Canine Bodywork Clinic provides soft-tissue clinical massage therapy for your dog. Using a vet-approved and scientifically backed clinical massage therapy see https://bvajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/vetr.586, it provides results in only 1-3 sessions. This dynamic manipulative type of clinical massage provides tangible results, whilst helping to alleviate and resolve subclinical, aging and everyday mobility issues. It also helps with soft-tissue injuries and conditions such as hip dysplasia and arthritis, as well as other orthopaedic conditions and anxiety. It is suitable for dogs of all ages, breeds and activity levels, working and agility too!
I have experienced first-hand how astounding this therapy works. I have now used this therapy for two of my dogs. First, there was Misty my beautiful soulmate GSD who had the onset of arthritis in her left hip but unfortunately, she was intolerant of NSAID medication, so managing her pain was becoming concerning. Upon my search for a non-drug based therapy, I found Clinical Canine Massage Therapy. The outcome after her initial 3 treatments was beyond phenomenal (seriously, no exaggeration!). She looked and walked unbelievably well, she had her ‘trot’ back and you could tell her pain had diminished substantially, she was like a new dog. Our current beauty Zuri, a Boerboel was diagnosed with puppy hip dysplasia and two hip removals, 5 operations (and a whole load of other issues along the way) later, her soft tissue had taken a bashing. Again, this therapy has changed her beyond belief, some of the benefits that I have seen with her:
• Resolved lameness
• Improved gait
• Pain is managed
• Now enjoys long walks
• Can get up and down stairs
• No longer stiff
• Reduced anxiety
• Improved muscle function
• Quality of life has enormously increased
• Extremely happy
These are just a few of the benefits I have experienced with my own dog. Pop over to my website for more information and see how this extraordinary therapy can help your dog.
Client Comments
Millie can now jump into car – prior to treatment she was being lifted. She is now no longer lifting her back leg when running. Prior to treatment she was lifting her leg frequently during walks. I have also noticed that she is now back to running in circles and rolling on her back to play with toys. I hadn’t realised she had stopped doing this until she started again.
Thank you Claire – delighted with your treatment and care shown to Millie.

Rory loves going for walks but every time we took him out, he would be extremely limpy for the first 10 mins of the walk and you would think you would need to take him home again as it was that bad. He walked like a really old dog always miles behind us. He also never really wanted to run with other dogs.
Now, his limp has completely gone, he walks ahead of us for most of the walk. He always chasing other dogs and playing with them a lot more now. He looks like a completely different dog. My family members have said how much better he looks now as well. We can’t thank Claire enough for helping Rory.

There has been a remarkable improvement in Jazz’s gait following the three sessions with Claire. Previously Jazz would become unsound following a 3-5 mile walk over hard or uneven ground. Jazz likes to ‘off-road’ and it has been difficult restricting this kind of exercise. Following the sessions, Jazz has been able to participate in this type of exercise again without any issues. I am delighted and will continue with ongoing maintenance sessions.

After all sessions were complete Mylo was like a puppy again! He was back to his old self and like a brand new dog, he is totally loving life, wanting to play and doesn’t seem as down at all.
His dog walker has even commented on his improved mobility and personality – he is back to playing with the group and doing zoomies!
The change has been unreal!
We honestly can’t thank Claire enough for giving us our dog back – we are so grateful to see that he is no longer in as much pain and we can give him a better life by continuing with the treatment,

Brodie was previously very re-active to dogs when out on a walk or sitting looking out the window. Following the treatment there was a noticeable difference in him. He was very much more relaxed when out for a walk and appeared to be enjoying his surroundings more so than usual.

I’ve seen massive improvements in Zak since the sessions. He is usually reactive on lead towards other dogs because he’s anxious about getting hurt but since the sessions, Zak’s reactivity has been minimal. He still has his good days and bad days but overall, Zak always seems super chilled out after the sessions.
