About the Therapist
My name is Gina Barrell, I own Natural Ways Canine Massage. I trained for two years with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre, studying canine anatomy and physiology and four disciplines of massage: Swedish, Sports, Deep tissue and Myofascial release. My background is in sports science and coaching rowing, and over the years I have seen how massage is a very effective tool in rehabilitation and maintenance of human performance; these days it gives me great pleasure to see these same benefits being achieved in dogs through the use of this non-invasive therapy.
My Canine massage journey began when my Cocker Spaniel, Jack and I took part in the one-day Beginners Guide to Canine Massage with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre, I was fascinated by how massage could be used to help dogs and how so many dogs in one room could settle and be at ease in each other’s company. Soon after, Jack suffered an injury when he slipped on some ice, and he didn’t recover as he should. I took him to see my local massage therapist and when I saw how she worked with him and how he responded to the treatment I knew that it was something I wanted to be able do. I decided to follow a new path in my life and enrol on the Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner Programme and I have not looked back, I thrive on the knowledge that I can spend time working with our faithful companions to help them live their best lives.
Canine Massage is a holistic treatment that can aid recovery from injury, maintain mobility and manage pain in dogs suffering orthopaedic conditions such as hip dysplasia and arthritis; it can be very effective for dogs who are showing signs of aging, and it is also successfully used in maintaining the performance of working and sporting dogs.
If you would like to find out more about whether massage might be a non-medical solution for your dog then please do contact me, I will be happy to talk in more detail and answer any questions you may have. Should you wish to proceed, I will travel to your home to provide treatments, the first session is 1.5 hours and subsequent sessions last 1 hour; I aim to get results in 1-3 sessions. Should you be outside my usual area of coverage I can sometimes arrange to travel further with a small additional charge to cover extra fuel costs.
Cost
£37.50 per treatment
Client Comments
George suffers with bilateral elbow dysplasia and has always tended to be always quite stiff when he gets off his bed, stretching in a stiff/uncomfortable way. After his sessions he looks much more comfortable, seemingly enjoying a longer/deeper stretch. He is moving and running around on his walks with more spring in his step and he appears to have a much quicker turn of speed particular if he spies a rabbit across a field – previously he has not chased rabbits for quite some time!
Gina was excellent in all ways with George, she talked to him if he showed a response to a spot which was uncomfortable, and she would ensure he was calm and settled before proceeding.

I was very happy how Gina handled Coco, she was so gentle, respectful, and patient with her. Gina seems to have a naturally calming personality and you can tell how much she loves working with animals. I am very protective of Coco and at no point in time, did I feel that Gina caused Coco any discomfort and I felt confident she was in safe hands. Gina kept me informed with what she was doing and explained the theory for me to easily understand.
