About the therapist
My name is Jo Odom I run Cannect Clinical Canine Massage in North Yorkshire. I have four dogs, all of whom have massage treatments for different reasons. I have two rescue dogs Maya the Romanian GSD X and Willow the Podenco who started me on a journey into dogs sports. My dogs have trained in canicross, agility and flyball. I now have a purpose bred Sled dog; a Eurohound called Raven who I am training to compete in bikejor. I understand the demands of these sports and I use this knowledge to support a team of champion sled dogs in Highlands of Scotland to maintain peak performance when training and racing.
I first came across massage through canicross, but it was when my first dog Polly the Golden Retriever was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia that I began looking into the practice. I wanted explore the alternatives to surgery and attended a one day course. After seeing the positive impact on Polly it was there and then that I decided I wanted to learn more and become a practitioner.
The course involved over 900 hours of study, including, both written and practical work. I learned 4 massage disciplines: Swedish, Sports, Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release and was trained in the Lenton Method ®. This method was clinically verified in a collaborative study of 527 cases with the University of Winchester and published in the Vet Record.
My Practice is holistic, assessing and treating the whole of the dog’s body and not just the immediate area of change or concern. This ensures I am able to address areas of compensation. I work on dogs of all breeds and sizes to rehabilitate soft tissue and muscular injuries presenting as lameness, limping or slowing down, and help to manage chronic pain caused by orthopaedic conditions such as hip dysplasia and arthritis. I also treat sports dogs to support optimal muscle function helping them to maintain peak performance.

Initial assessment and treatment £50, follow up treatments/maintenance £45
