About the therapist
My name is Joanne Rawlings, and I live in Upton Upon Severn with my husband, son and our two Basset Hounds, Bilbo & Bambi. I am a Registered Canine Hydrotherapist, having qualified in 2022, currently working out of Malvern Canine Hydrotherapy.
I developed a passion for complementary therapy when Bilbo was a young puppy, realising that I had a breed who was predisposed to certain conditions, I was keen to try various therapies to enhance his health and wellbeing. Our first experience of Clinical Canine Massage Therapy came when Bilbo was just 6 months old, having been referred to a Guild therapist by a dog trainer, I was blown away by the knowledge and warmth of the therapist. Bilbo later suffered a disc extrusion which triggered sudden onset paraplegia and with the help of intensive underwater treadmill treatment and (later) frequent massages, Bilbo regained the ability to walk, without surgery.
This only enhanced my interest in complementary therapy and led to my subsequent Hydrotherapy qualification in 2022, and now the completion of the Practitioner Programme with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre.
I am available for clinics at a local Veterinary Practice and I also offer a mobile service whereby and I will come and treat your dog in their own home (travel costs applicable over 15 miles).

Folly has really slowed down recently, she is stiff in her back legs and seems painful in her lower back, grumbling when she changes position. I was keen to try further massage therapy with Folly as she has had good results with it in the past.
Jo was very empathetic with Folly and always respectful of her boundaries. Since her massage treatment, Folly has been stretching more than usual and has rolled on her back for the first time in years. She has also been more cheeky! We are very much looking forward to the next treatment!

Toby has good days and bad days. He can be very stiff and lame and can struggle to stand after he has been lying down. Jo handled Toby very sympathetically, she was very calm and reassuring. Toby has since had less spells of lameness and has been more mobile. We will be looking to continue treatment with him.

Domino had been struggling with a flare up and was suffering frequent lameness and struggling to get on and off furniture or go up and down the stairs at home. I thought Massage Therapy would be worth a try.
Jo was nothing but wonderful throughout the sessions. She handled Domino with an exceptional level of understanding, patience, and kindness, always taking the time to read his moods and adjust her approach accordingly. Her ability to recognise when he needed reassurance, space, or a change in pressure showed a high degree of empathy and sensitivity to his needs. Domino clearly responded positively to her calm and compassionate manner, and I felt completely confident and at ease with how she handled him at all times.
Domino visibly improved after the first session, walking up and down the stairs was a big one.
Throughout the treatment he seemed happier and more himself, like he wasn’t in pain anymore.I would recommend canine massage to anyone with a dog like mine. Jo was fabulous!
