About the therapist

Liz phelps photo Liz Phelps is a highly experienced traditional Thai massage therapist with a passion for helping others. With over 13 years of experience, Liz has added many other forms of massage to her repertoire and continues to learn and grow to keep her passion alive.

Recently, Liz completed a 1200-hour, 2-year degree level course in Clinical Canine Massage. This newfound expertise allows her to provide therapeutic massage not only to humans, but also to dogs. Liz is dedicated to helping all dogs but particularly older dogs regain quality of life and manage orthopaedic issues such as arthritis, inspired by her own experience caring for her beloved Labrador, Sky, who passed away at the age of 16.

Liz’s love for massage therapy and her commitment to helping others, whether two-legged or four-legged, is truly inspiring. She is passionate about improving the quality of life for both humans and dogs and takes pride in offering a holistic approach to her clients.

Liz is incredibly skilled and experienced in providing bodywork for humans and you can see that translated into her touch with the dogs. She seemed to have an intuitive touch and was able to deeply connect with Roly to ensure his comfort and confidence.

Roly has historic back and joint stiffness and was always slightly kinked when standing and showing signs of slowing down. His standing posture and gait is now much more even and he now has a surprising amount of bounce for a dog of his age. I’ve been delighted with the outcome and fully intend to continue with maintenance treatments to keep Roly as active as possible as he gets older.

Roly, 10 Labradoodle

From the first treatment, Jed was moving more freely. After the third treatment Jed has improved in both mobility and mood. Before treatment Jed wouldn’t move unless he absolutely needed to. He spent a lot of time in his bed looking very down. He struggled to get up and was usually significantly lame. He now finds it much easier to get up and so does it more often. He is also much brighter in himself and this is great to see. Liz has had a huge impact on his quality of life and I am hugely thankful to her!

Jed 10 Black Labrador

Betty has suffered with back and hip problems for which she has had medication for many years. Surgery is not an option and the condition will deteriorate as she ages. It means that Betty hasn’t walked straight for years with an uneven gait and often drags her back toes, walks are much shorter and we often have to wait for her to catch up. Play and running have become less as she gets older. I was extremely interested in canine massage to see if it would help and in hope that it would relieve some of her pain giving her a happier and more comfortable life.

Liz has a wonderful way with Betty, she is calm, quiet, kind, sympathetic and understanding. Betty gets spoken to quietly and given praise and encouragement. Liz gently moves her into the required positions so Betty remains chilled, relaxed and happy, even falling asleep at one point.

Since the treatments I feel that Betty is walking a little more evenly and freely with no paddling and less toe dragging. She’s kept up with us on walks and even taken the lead on a couple occasions. Walks are more enjoyable and she’s also willing to play in the evenings even initiating it by going to the toy box for toys. She certainly seems happier and more comfortable I would definitely like to continue with Canine Massage.
