About the therapist

RachaelFraserphotoMy name is Rachael, and my business is Leaps and Bounds Canine Massage Therapy. I was previously a Primary school Teacher and I have a background in Sports Science and Performance. I was also lucky enough to play rugby union for England in my younger days!

I was drawn to canine massage therapy through my own experiences of acute injuries and chronic pain, of which massage therapy created life changing results; in addition to what my own dog has experienced. Mollie my cockapoo started ‘skipping’ on her back leg at the age of 3, and it has since been diagnosed as luxating patella syndrome. I was desperate to find a holistic therapy that could support her without the need for drugs, surgery or stressful experiences. I came across canine massage therapy and so far, she has avoided surgery. She loves her favourite walks in the woods or on the beach and leads a very happy, loved and most importantly pain free life.

I have trained for 2 years with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre completing 1200 hours of canine anatomy and physiology, handling many different breeds of dog and training in the following 4 disciplines of massage: Swedish, Sports, Deep Tissue and Myofascial release (both direct and indirect). I specialize in treating soft tissue and muscular issues to support the rehabilitation of acute injuries and provide pain management for chronic orthopaedic conditions such as hip/elbow dysplasia and arthritis.

Massage therapy is suitable for dogs of all ages and activity levels, whether they are a pet, performance, show or working dog. Everyday activities like going up and down the stairs, ball chasing or walking on slippery floors can lead to muscular injuries which present in your dog as ‘slowing down’, limping or lameness and changes in their behaviour and general demeanor. I can help by offering your dog a therapy that is relaxing, drug-free and enjoyable in the comfort of their own home or my canine massage therapy studio. My passion is providing the pain relief your beloved dog deserves which can be achieved in just 1-3 treatments.

Cost

Initial consultation including gait analysis and 1st treatment (1hour 15 minutes) = £45.

Rachael has been helping Kara, our aging German Shepherd Dog, with her mobility problems and osteoarthritis. We’ve seen a remarkable improvement over the 6 weeks so far. Kara is much more alert and interested in walks. She is getting steadier on her feet and is excited to play again.
Rachael takes the time to get to know you and your dog and always goes at their pace. If you are considering canine massage, we can highly recommend Leaps and Bounds.

Rachael is great, a true dog lover! She is so gentle and patient with Duke, our Yorkshire Terrier, which puts him at ease and allows him to relax during his massage. Rachael has helped to reduce the stiffness in Duke’s lumbar spine and hind legs, improving his mobility and reducing his pain. He now has more stamina on his usual walks, can settle easier for rest, has regained his sparkle and always has a good nap after his massage.
Rachael is great not only with Duke but with my other dog who is a rescue and nervous of strangers. I always feel completely at ease with her working directly with either dog.

We approached Rachael for canine massage therapy as Angus our Springer Spaniel had a grade 2 cruciate ligament sprain in his knee. Rachael was brilliant with Angus and really helped us by explaining what she was finding and how massage could help him.
Angus clearly trusted Rachael and it was wonderful to see him so relaxed, never having had massage before. We were amazed at the improvement in Angus’ range of motion in both his hind and forelegs and a clear reduction in pain around his injury after massage. It was also fascinating to learn about other areas of Angus that were causing him discomfort, and Rachael was able to resolve these over the course of three treatments.
We had total trust in Rachael as she was wonderful with Angus, tuning in to how he was feeling during each treatment. We would highly recommend taking your dog to Rachael for massage therapy.
