About the therapist
Hello, I’m Sarah and I run Hillcroft Hounds Clinical Canine Massage, near Wrexham in North Wales. I work with dogs living with pain, stiffness, and the behaviour changes that so often go with them. I trained with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre on their two-year Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner Programme, and I bring to my work a genuine fascination with canine anatomy and a deep commitment to helping owners understand what’s happening inside their dog’s body.
My path into canine massage was shaped by my own dogs. Brenin, my Saluki Greyhound cross, has a history of myofascial pain and emotional trauma; Dyfi, my ex-racing Greyhound, lives with a skeletal deformity and soft tissue injuries. Alongside the sighthounds who came before them – Della and Sandy – they’ve been my greatest teachers. I also bring my own lived experience of chronic pain to my practice, which gives me a particular understanding of what it means to live in a body that hurts, and how much that shapes everything else.
My approach is consent-led, unhurried, and built around the individual dog. I’m experienced in working with anxious and touch-sensitive dogs, and I create a calm, low-pressure environment where there are no expectations about how a dog should behave. Whilst I was hoping that Thorn would enjoy the hands on, I was worried that he wouldn’t be able to stay still long enough to have his massage. He was a little giddy during his first session but it was all new and the first time he met Sarah, who was absolutely fabulous with him and very patient. During the second session Thorn gained his confidence and he appeared so relaxed that at one point he was falling asleep.

Spooky has bilateral hip dysplasia, and was having trouble urinating correctly as she could not squat down well, struggling to get into the van, lying down more on walks and had started to chew more on her toys as a coping mechanism for pain during the evening.
After 3 treatments she is now more active and the night chewing has stopped. While she will never be sound she has improved a lot and I look forward to treatments in the future to make sure Spooky maintains her improved progress. I would highly recommend it to anyone be that for chronic pain or maintenance, it makes such a difference to the dogs

Sarah was atuned to Benji from the beginning and it was lovely to watch their relationship deepen so that she could pinpoint exactly the needs of Benji. She was kind and calm and both Benji and I trusted her. Benji is now able to enjoy his off-lead times without limping and it’s less of a struggle for him to remain in one place to toilet.
