About the therapist
I’m Sarah Johns from Salty Dog Grooming and Clinical Massage, living in the centre of Cornwall by Stithians Lake with my husband Steve and two spaniels Cleo and Alfie. I completed my training on the Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner programme in February 2023 after 2 years of study with Natalie Lenton under The Canine Massage Therapy Centre.
As a lifelong dog-lover, after retiring from a long career in the Royal Navy in 2017, I decided to follow my dream of working with dogs. So I started by training as a dog groomer and love my new life meeting dogs and their owners in the heart of beautiful Cornwall. I’ve also always been interested in complementary therapies and the benefits of massage in particular and attended a one-day course with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre soon after starting my grooming business that inspired me to take canine massage further ‘one day’ when not so busy learning my grooming skills! That day came in 2020 when my spaniel Alfie had mobility issues (from spinal disc damage and cruciate ligament surgery) and I went to a Guild Therapist whose advice and massage sessions really helped him. I realised this was the time to take the plunge to become a Canine Clinical Massage Therapist myself in order to help improve the quality of life of other dogs (and Alfie of course who, 3 years on, is doing really well).
By using the disciplines of Swedish, Sports and Deep Tissue massage alongside Myofascial release and the clinically trialled Lenton Method™ (Link to BVA Journal) treatments are tailored to your dog’s individual needs and results are normally seen within 3 treatments. There are many benefits to Clinical Canine Massage including helping to rehabilitate soft tissue injuries, pain management with orthopaedic conditions, improved mobility and comfort levels and overall wellbeing for your dog.
